Shuei Kozu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at Southern Connecticut State University. They are based in LA 122 and can be contacted at kozus1@southernct.edu.
- Research Focus: Anti-racism, anti-oppressive practice, intersectionality, racial microaggressions, white supremacy, and emotional well-being during systemic crises.
Recent scholarship examines frameworks to dismantle systemic racism through anti-oppression strategies and intersectional experiential learning. Their 2022 article in Advances in Social Work proposes critical pedagogy to address racial equity, while the 2021 article explores inclusive educational tools to combat white supremacy and its emotional impact during the pandemic.
Kozu presented a keynote at the 2021 National Organization of Social Work Annual Conference, analyzing racial microaggressions and their effects on Asian and Asian American communities in virtual environments. This work complements their research on social justice in social work education and practice.
