Brian Daly is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism at the University of King’s College. With 26 years of experience in print journalism and television news production, he transitioned to academia emphasizing teaching, mentorship, and equity initiatives. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Communications (BAA) from Toronto Metropolitan University.
Research focuses include media recruitment strategies for Black youth through J-School Noire, critical discourse analysis of Canadian immigration policies, and equitable classroom practices. Notable works include the book Canada’s Other Game and a documentary on Rock Church Halifax’s 50th anniversary. He has been twice shortlisted for RTDNA Awards and contributed to global media freedom conferences.
Teaching roles span reporting, editing, and video production courses. He co-authored key resources like Making your classrooms more equitable and manages a Diverse Guest Speakers Database. Recent presentations address diversity in newsrooms and systemic racism in media.
