معرفی
Brian D. Fields is a Professor of Astronomy and Physics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Astronomy within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Chicago (1994) and an AB in Physics and English from Williams College (1989).
Fields' research focuses on high-energy astrophysical processes linking nuclear/particle physics with cosmological phenomena, including supernovae, cosmic rays, and gravitational waves. He explores how these phenomena shape cosmic matter evolution and provide insights into fundamental physics beyond terrestrial experiments.
He has been recognized as a University Scholar (2014-2017) and repeatedly honored as an excellent teacher. Courses taught include cosmology, galactic astronomy, and specialized graduate topics like nuclear/particle astrophysics. His recent publications (2024) address topics ranging from gravitational wave origins to near-Earth supernova impacts and Big Bang nucleosynthesis constraints.
Fields maintains active roles in campus observatory operations and public outreach through the Kaler Classroom and 100th Anniversary Virtual Celebration initiatives. His interdisciplinary work bridges astrophysics with particle physics, geology, and planetary science.
