George Fuller is Distinguished Professor of Physics at UC San Diego and Director of the Center for Astrophysics and Space Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from Caltech under William Fowler and has held positions at Chicago, UC Santa Cruz, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
His research integrates:
- Neutrino physics in astrophysical environments
- Dark matter detection and theoretical models
- General relativistic effects in stellar collapse
- Big Bang nucleosynthesis and early universe physics
- Gravitational wave sources from cosmic events
Recent publications focus on neutrino dynamics in supernovae, sterile neutrino dark matter, and QCD transitions in the early universe. His work frequently combines particle physics with cosmological phenomena using analytical and computational approaches.
Awards:
- Hans A. Bethe Prize (APS 2013)
- Fellow of the American Physical Society
He leads theoretical efforts in the Simons Observatory collaboration and supervises graduate students in nuclear and particle astrophysics. Current projects investigate dark matter interactions in massive stars and lepton number violations in core-collapse supernovae.
