Brian Anderson is a Senior Lecturer of Music History Pedagogy at the University of North Texas (UNT), where he returned after completing his PhD in musicology with a related field in music theory. He holds a Master of Music in Musicology, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Kansas State University.
His research interests span Music History, Music Theory, Ethnomusicology, and Pedagogy. He actively participates in professional development initiatives, including organizing over a dozen events for UNT’s Graduate Association of Musicologists and Theorists (GAMuT), and implementing a mentorship program for incoming students. Dr. Anderson has presented at conferences such as the Music Librarians’ Association Annual Conference and the Nineteenth Century Studies Association.
Notably, he received a 2023 National Endowment for the Humanities grant and was recognized for teaching excellence through multiple nominations. He is an active percussionist with extensive classroom teaching experience in both mathematics and music.
Professional memberships include the Society for American Music, American Musicological Society, AMS Southwest, Texas Society for Music Theory, Team-Based Learning Collaborative, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
