Dr. Brian A. Coffill is an Associate Professor of Music and the Founding Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. His career spans roles as a conductor, pedagogue, and researcher, with a focus on expanding instrumental repertoire inclusivity and exploring intersections between American culture, music, and baseball. He established RMC's instrumental music program in 2018, which rapidly evolved into a nationally recognized suite of ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Improvisation Laboratory, and Chamber Ensembles.

Research interests include:
- Promoting inclusive, culturally relevant wind band repertoire
- Interpreting works by iconoclastic composer Charles Ives
- Historical connections between baseball and American wind bands
As an educator, he coordinates music education, teaches conducting and theory, and designed the January-Term Chamber Ensemble program. He also founded the VCU Health Wind Ensemble and serves on the VMEA Council for Creativity and Innovation. Current ensembles under his baton demonstrate trends in flexible instrumentation, student-driven programming, and genre-bending performances.
