Dr. Brett Martinson is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying at the University of Portsmouth, and a member of the Environmental Technology Research Group. His research focuses on water conservation, building physics, and sustainable technologies for low-income countries. He is also affiliated with the Centre for Environmental and Renewable Energy Solutions and the Centre of Excellence in Defence, Risk & Resilience.
He supervises PhD students and leads projects on topics such as thermal comfort in tropical regions, sustainable housing solutions, and earth construction techniques. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in addressing water scarcity and sustainable infrastructure.
Recent research includes studies on recycled materials in construction, indoor environmental quality in museums, and life cycle assessments of construction materials. He has contributed to projects like the NEREUS initiative for wastewater resource recovery and the SEA CHANGE program for port sustainability.
Dr. Martinson has received the 2023 Faculty of Technology Development Project Fund Award. His collaborations span international institutions, emphasizing practical solutions for environmental challenges in developing regions.
