Brent Peterson is an Associate Professor and Co-Program Chair of Kinesiology and Public Health at Biola University. His research integrates biomedical, clinical, and public health frameworks, with a focus on inflammation-related biomarkers (cortisol, TNF-α, CRP, IL-1-10, testosterone) in exercise, stress, and resting conditions. He has led studies on SARS-CoV-2, including profiling human conditional elements and antibody/vitamin D dynamics, and applies his clinical experience with cancer patients to emphasize faith-integrated, missional approaches in education.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Northern Colorado
- M.P.H., Colorado School of Public Health
- M.S., California State University, Fullerton
- B.A., Concordia University
Dr. Peterson's research spans bioethics, exercise physiology, cancer rehabilitation, metabolomics, microbiomics, immunology, and biological markers. His work bridges molecular mechanisms to population-level pandemic responses, examining how exercise modulates inflammation and cognitive function in aging and oncology contexts. Publications highlight collaborations in Frontiers in Medicine and Psychology, emphasizing interdisciplinary applications.
Scientific Awards:
- Stewart Research Fellowship (twice awarded)
- Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center Award
- GPA and Diversity Scholarships at Colorado School of Public Health
- ACSM regional speaking and research awards
His lab investigates stress-exercise-immunity interactions and contributes to pandemic research, including viral transmission and biopsychosocial impacts of isolation. Teaching roles include Exercise Physiology and Clinical Exercise Physiology, with a focus on assimilating peer-reviewed evidence and faith-based perspectives in both Kinesiology B.S. and M.P.H. programs.
