Professor Brent Miller is a Professor and Associate Department Head in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University. His research focuses on high-resolution geochronology, tectonics, and crustal evolution, particularly in the Appalachian orogen. He investigates the timing and tempo of geological events, including orogenic processes and deep crustal dynamics.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Geology, Dalhousie University (1997)
- M.Sc. & B.Sc. in Geology, Ohio University (1991, 1987)
- Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Syracuse University (1996–1999)
His research interests include the Appalachian orogen’s tectonic history, Archean-Proterozoic tectonics in the Wyoming Craton, and Cretaceous sedimentary systems. He applies advanced U-Pb dating techniques to constrain geological events, such as volcanic ash beds in the Western Interior Seaway.
Recent publications highlight studies on Paleozoic evolution, metamorphic processes, and magmatism in regions like Turkey, Oman, and the Transantarctic Mountains. His work integrates field studies with geochemical and isotopic analyses to understand continental evolution and orogenic processes.
Dr. Miller’s contributions span teaching, including leading undergraduate field courses, and collaborative projects that bridge geochronology with broader tectonic frameworks.
