Brent Hill, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Biology Department at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). He joined UCA in 2003. His research focuses on the impact of female sex hormones, particularly estrogen, on cardiovascular and skeletal systems, including estrogen's effects on calcium regulatory proteins in vasculature and bone biophysical properties. He teaches courses such as Cardiovascular Physiology, Cell Biology, and Biology for General Education.
Education:
- B.A., Biology, Luther College, 1993
- M.S., Veterinary Physiology & Pharmacology, Iowa State University, 1995
- Ph.D., Medical Physiology, University of Missouri, 2000
Research Interests: Dr. Hill’s work investigates how estrogen influences calcium-regulatory proteins in blood vessels and bone strength. Key questions include estrogen’s role in vascular calcium channel regulation and its effects on bone structure under conditions like simulated microgravity. His studies combine molecular biology, pharmacology, and biomechanical analyses.
His publications highlight advancements in understanding estrogen’s non-genomic effects on coronary arteries and bone health. Dr. Hill is also an advocate for integrating physiology into undergraduate curricula, emphasizing hands-on teaching methods like the frog heart preparation for vascular studies.
