Sarah Lindsey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Tulane University School of Medicine. She holds the Dr. Barbara S. Beckman Professorship in Pharmacology. Her research focuses on estrogen receptor signaling, particularly the G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER), and its role in cardiovascular health and disease. Lindsey leads the Tulane Center of Excellence in Sex-Based Biology & Medicine, emphasizing translational research on sex differences in health and aging.
Education: B.A. (Psychology, University of Mississippi), M.S. (Molecular Biopsychology, University of Memphis), Ph.D. (Pharmacology, LSU Health Sciences Center), and postdoctoral training at Wake Forest School of Medicine. She previously held faculty positions at Wake Forest and Tulane, advancing to her current role in 2019.
Research interests include estrogen's cardioprotective mechanisms, hypertension pathophysiology, and the impact of menopause on vascular health. Her lab investigates novel therapeutic strategies targeting GPER to mitigate cardiovascular risks in postmenopausal women. Key projects involve environmental estrogens, hormone therapy regimens, and estrogen receptor ligands.
Publications highlight findings on GPER's role in vascular remodeling, renal damage, and diastolic dysfunction. Lindsey has mentored over 20 graduate and undergraduate students in experimental pharmacology and cardiovascular biology. Her work is funded by grants exploring sex-based differences in disease mechanisms and aging.
Lindsey's lab collaborates on multi-disciplinary projects at Tulane and beyond, advancing understanding of estrogen's dual roles in health and disease. Ongoing initiatives include developing GPER-based therapies for hypertension and studying vascular aging mechanisms.
