Brenda Garand is a Professor of Studio Art at Dartmouth College, where she has taught since 1995. Her work explores cultural connections between French and Indigenous peoples of Québec, material symbolism, and environmental themes through sculpture and drawing.

- Former Chair of Dartmouth’s Studio Art Department (2006–2012)
- Recipient of Fulbright, Gottlieb, and Vermont Arts Council grants
- Artist-in-residence at Yaddo, Ragdale, and Pouch Cove Foundation
Garand’s recent work addresses her neurological condition, integrating written language with sculpture to communicate embodied experiences. Her materials—cold-rolled steel, Indigenous quills, handmade walnut ink—reflect personal and regional heritage. Exhibitions include This Land (Hood Museum, 2022) and Broken Speech (2020), which highlight her exploration of place and physical limitations.
