Karen Liebowitz

Karen Liebowitz is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Art at the University of Southern California. Originally from New York, she lives and works in Los Angeles, creating paintings that blend classicism and fantasy, focusing on female protagonists in contemporary and futuristic mythological narratives.

Her research explores intersections of eco-feminism, shamanism, and eco-Judaism, often through environmentalist and homesteading imagery repurposed into rituals of cultural preservation. A recurring theme in her work is the tension between hope and apprehension in human intervention.
