Brenda Espinosa Apráez is a postdoctoral researcher and legal scholar at Tilburg University, affiliated with the Tilburg Law School and the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society (TILT). Her work bridges law, technology, and data governance, with a focus on the regulation of AI and data in digitalized utilities under EU and Dutch law.

Her research centers on the legal and ethical dimensions of data-driven innovation, particularly in the energy and water sectors. Her work emphasizes data sharing, privacy, and energy justice.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in analyzing AI regulation in energy systems, smart meter privacy, and the legal implications of data governance in public infrastructure. These works span interdisciplinary domains, combining law, technology policy, and sustainability.

Brenda has supervised bachelor’s and master’s theses in the Global Law and LLM Law & Technology programs. Currently serving as a Collaborative Grants Officer, she supports researchers in securing strategic funding from Dutch and EU agencies for large-scale, impact-driven initiatives.
She is actively involved in academic and professional networks, contributing to special issues, editorial boards, and public engagement through podcasts and digital knowledge clips. Her work is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in promoting responsible innovation and equitable energy transitions.
