Associate Professor Branka Miljevic is an academic in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She holds a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry from QUT and has been a faculty member since 2013, serving as Academic Lead for HDR students. Her research focuses on atmospheric aerosols, their chemical composition, and impacts on human health and climate. She has pioneered techniques like real-time mass spectrometry (AMS, CIMS) and developed assays for measuring reactive oxygen species (ROS) on particles.
Education:
- BSc (Hons) Chemistry, University of Zagreb (2006)
- PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry, QUT (2010)
Research Interests:
- Aerosol characterization via mass spectrometry
- Biogenic and anthropogenic aerosol sources
- Aerosol aging processes
- Health and climate implications of atmospheric particles
Her work includes first deployments of AMS and CIMS in Australia, contributing to understanding aerosol impacts on cloud formation and air quality.
Awards:
- QUT Vice Chancellor’s Performance Award (2018, 2015)
- Endeavour Research Fellowship (2017)
- France-Australia Science Innovation Collaboration Fellowship (2015)
Supervision & Grants: Supervised 10+ PhD students on topics like biomass burning, marine aerosols, and aerosol toxicity. Lead researcher on grants totaling ~$10M, including ARC-funded projects on aerosol climate effects and ultrafine particles.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health (ILAQH), leading aerosol measurement innovations.
