Olga Garmash is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in Experimental Atmospheric Physical Chemistry. Her research group investigates molecular clustering mechanisms and aerosol particle formation processes critical to climate and health impacts.
Her primary research interests focus on Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Physics, with specific expertise in low-volatility vapor formation, biogenic emissions, and oxidation processes. Key areas include:
- Molecular clustering dynamics in boreal and marine environments
- Secondary organic aerosol formation from anthropogenic and biogenic precursors
- Climate interactions of atmospheric particulate matter
- Advanced mass spectrometry techniques for atmospheric analysis
Recent publications reveal strong emphasis on European pollution systems (2025 Nature Geoscience paper), Siberian boreal forest responses to heatwaves (2024 ERL), and marine sulfur cycling (2025 ACP). Her work bridges laboratory experiments with field observations across diverse ecosystems.
Garmash teaches MSc courses including Air Pollution and Health (course responsible) and Modern Atmospheric Chemistry, plus PhD scientific writing workshops. She maintains extensive international collaborations across atmospheric science institutions.
