Bradley J. Cardinal, PhD, is a Professor of Kinesiology at Oregon State University’s School of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences within the College of Health. His research focuses on the psychosocial and socio-cultural aspects of health and physical activity. He holds prestigious roles, including former Chair of the U.S. President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition Science Board (2020) and past President of the National Academy of Kinesiology (2018–2019).
Dr. Cardinal has received notable awards such as the AAAS Fellowship (2022), the Richard M. Bressler Senior Faculty Teaching Award (2021), and an Honorary Doctorate from Kasetsart University, Thailand (2024). His international collaborations include a 20-year partnership with Kasetsart University, focusing on strengthening sports science education and Olympic development in Thailand. He has advised Thai faculty and students, participated in large-scale initiatives like the Guinness World Record ‘Bike for Mom’ event, and contributed to Thai higher education policy.
His research spans physical activity promotion equity, inclusive education policies, and the intersection of sport with social justice. Recent work addresses barriers in campus recreation programs for disabled students and evaluates the clarity of online health resources. Dr. Cardinal advocates for universal design principles in physical activity education and emphasizes the role of kinesiology in addressing global health challenges.
His service includes leadership roles in NASPE, AAHPERD, and NIRSA, alongside editorial work for major journals. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents at national/international conferences. His advocacy extends to policy-level youth sport reforms and public health messaging strategies.
