Bożena Karwowska is a Professor at the Department of Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies, University of British Columbia, with cross-appointments in the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice and Centre for Cinema Studies. Her research spans Holocaust studies, feminist theory, and Polish literature.

Her scholarship focuses on gender, sexuality, and exile in Holocaust literature, with a particular emphasis on Polish women's narratives and intergenerational memory. She pioneered the "Witnessing Auschwitz" program, a research-abroad seminar combining fieldwork in Poland with critical theory.
Key publications include Body, Sexuality and Concentration Camps (2009) and Second Sex in Exile (2013). Her editorial work with journals like Teksty Drugie and Sarmatian Review demonstrates commitment to transnational academic dialogue.

As program coordinator, she organized academic exchanges with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, University of Warsaw, and Jewish Historical Institute, fostering interdisciplinary Holocaust education.
