Professor Bostjan Kobe is an NHMRC Leadership Fellow and Professor at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, University of Queensland, with an affiliate position at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience. His research focuses on protein structure and function, particularly in infection and immunity, employing techniques like X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. Key projects include structural basis of innate immune signaling, plant disease resistance, and pathogen protein function. He has secured significant funding from NHMRC and ARC grants, including an Australian Laureate Fellowship. His lab develops advanced facilities like the 3D-Electron Diffractometer. Kobe supervises numerous PhD students in structural biology and collaborates on antifungal drug discovery and SARM1 neurodegeneration mechanisms.
Education: BSc (University of Ljubljana), PhD (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center).
Research Interests: Protein structure-function relationships, innate immunity, plant-pathogen interactions, structural biology. Techniques include crystallography, cryo-EM, and computational methods. Current projects address TIR-domain signaling in immune pathways and bacterial drug targets.
Grants & Awards: NHMRC Leadership Fellow, ARC Australian Laureate Fellowship, NHMRC Investigator Grants. Active in funding since 2000, including infrastructure for molecular biology tools and structural facilities.
Lab/Teams: Leads the Structural Biology and Immunology Lab, involved in 3D-ED facility development and collaborations with industry (e.g., Disarm Therapeutics).
