Bonnie Whiting is the Chair of Percussion Studies and an Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Music. Her work focuses on experimental music, non-traditional notation, interdisciplinary performance, and the integration of spoken word with percussion. She actively commissions and performs new works, collaborating with composers and multimedia artists globally.
Whiting’s research and creative practice include site-specific installations, IoT data transcoding projects, and collaborations with incarcerated women. She has received a Mellon Creative Fellowship (2019/20) supporting her work with designer Audrey Desjardins on data-transcoding performance. Notable projects include Control/Resist (2017) and Through the Eyes(s) (2021), a collaborative cycle with composer Eliza Brown.
