Bonnie Noble

Dr. Bonnie Noble is an Associate Professor of Art History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she has taught since 1999. She specializes in Northern Renaissance art, particularly the intersection of religious devotion and artistic practice during the German Reformation. Her research focuses on Lucas Cranach the Elder, Albrecht Dürer, and Hans Baldung Grien, with a focus on how images functioned in devotional and ideological contexts. Noble received her Ph.D. in Art History from Northwestern University, an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Religious Studies from Northwestern.

Her notable works include the book *Lucas Cranach the Elder: Art and Devotion of the German Reformation* (2009) and the award-winning article on Cranach's Schneeberg Altarpiece. Current projects explore the relationship between linear perspective, melancholia, and visual perception in early modern art. She has been awarded grants from the Kress Foundation, DAAD, and NEH, and her work appears in journals like *Reformation* and *Sixteenth Century Journal*.

Noble teaches courses on Northern Renaissance, Baroque, and Gothic art, as well as introductory art history surveys. Her research emphasizes material culture, iconography, and the role of art in religious and social transformation.
