Laura Weigert is a Professor and Chair of the Art History Department at Rutgers University, specializing in Northern European art of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. She holds a B.A. from Swarthmore College and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. She has taught at institutions like the University of Nantes and Reed College before joining Rutgers in 2006. Her research explores media interactions, performance practices, and the intersection of art with theater and spatiality in early modern Europe.
Her scholarship includes seminal works like Weaving Sacred Stories (2004) and French Visual Culture and the Making of Medieval Theater (2015), which examine tapestries, medieval theater, and artistic storytelling. Current research focuses on media archaeology and the origins of modern media distinctions. She has held prestigious fellowships from the NEH, Kress Foundation, and the Institute for Advanced Study.
