Bonnie N. Kaiser is an Associate Professor jointly appointed in the Department of Anthropology and Global Health Program at UCSD. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from Emory University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Global Mental Health at Duke University. Her research focuses on qualitative and mixed-methods approaches to global mental health, implementation science, and cultural anthropology.
Her major research interests include Haiti and Kenya, with studies exploring cultural models of mental health, idioms of distress, and the cultural adaptation of interventions. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Haiti's Central Plateau and collaborates with organizations like Partners in Health (Zanmi Lasante). Her work bridges critical anthropological theory with practical global health interventions.
Dr. Kaiser has secured funding from NSF, NIH, and the Duke Global Health Institute for projects such as 'Trauma and Spiritual Insecurity in Haiti' and 'Food Insecurity and Mental Health in Global Perspective.' Her research also addresses oncofertility care for cancer patients and stigma reduction among healthcare providers.
Notable accolades include the Liz Kramer Service Award (2021) and the Charles Hughes Fellowship (2012). Her educational background includes a BA in Anthropology/Psychology from Notre Dame, an MPH in Epidemiology from Emory, and teaching awards recognizing her pedagogical contributions.
