His research focuses on cultural factors influencing mental health among immigrant populations, refugee trauma, and the intersection of computer science education policy with equity. He leads the Culture, Migration, and Community research group.
Key research areas include: 1) Trauma and mental health in displaced populations, 2) Cross-cultural measurement of psychological constructs, 3) Computer science education access and outcomes in urban schools, and 4) Health disparities among immigrant communities. His work combines quantitative and qualitative methods, with a focus on ecological models of mental health and culturally responsive educational practices.
Recent work highlights the role of daily stressors alongside traumatic events in refugee mental health, critiques overemphasis on PTSD in pandemic mental health narratives, and evaluates policies like Chicago's computer science graduation requirement. His research has been supported through collaborative grants like the Chicago Alliance for Equity in Computer Science (CAFECS), focusing on equitable STEM pathways.
He has contributed to psychometric tools such as the Zanmi Lasante Depression Symptom Inventory and the Harvard Trauma Questionnaire validation across global samples. His interdisciplinary approach bridges clinical psychology, public health, and education policy.
