Bonnie Lander Johnson is a Senior Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall, University of Oxford, and an Associate Professor in English Literature at Downing College, Cambridge. She also serves as Director of Studies at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. Her work bridges academic scholarship and creative writing, focusing on Shakespeare, early modern culture, and the intersection of literature with botany and Catholic literary revival.
Her research explores Renaissance literature, critical editions of Catholic women writers, and eco-critical approaches to literary studies. Publications include academic works like Chastity in Early Stuart Literature and Culture and Blood Matters, alongside creative pieces in journals such as Hinterland, HOWL, and Dappled Things. She edits a multi-volume series on Catholic women writers for the Catholic University of America Press.
Recent creative works include Vanishing Landscapes (forthcoming, 2025), 'Young Love' (2024), and 'blackwhite' (2024). Earlier works like 'Treasure' (2022), 'Green' (2022), and 'The Tree That Grows Forever' (2022) reflect her engagement with themes of nature, identity, and Renaissance aesthetics.
She has been shortlisted for notable literary awards, including the Royal Literary Society V.S. Pritchett Prize (2021) and the Brick Lane Bookshop Short Story Award (2022). Her interdisciplinary approach connects academic rigor with contemporary creative expression.
