Susan Tomlinson is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She serves as the editor of Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers and is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Oxford University Press Complete Works of Edith Wharton, where she is editing the first scholarly edition of Wharton’s novel The Glimpses of the Moon.
- Education: PhD from Brown University
Her research focuses on late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American and African-American literature, literary history, and intersections of gender and modernism. She has contributed extensively to studies on the Harlem Renaissance and works of Jessie Fauset, while also exploring themes in middlebrow modernism and women’s writing of the 1920s.
Her publications span journals like MFS: Modern Fiction Studies, Legacy, and Resources for American Literary Study, as well as edited collections on popular American women writers and Harlem Renaissance pedagogy. A forthcoming contribution to The New Edith Wharton Studies (Cambridge UP) highlights her ongoing editorial work.
