Bohdan Kordan is a Professor of International Relations at the Department of Political Studies, St. Thomas More College. He has held academic roles at the University of Alberta (1982-85), University of Toronto (1990-91), and MacEwan University (1988-93) prior to his 1993 appointment at STM. He is the Founding Director of the Prairie Centre for the Study of Ukrainian Heritage. His research focuses on nationalism, ethnic conflict, Canadian multiculturalism policy, Ukraine's contemporary politics, and historical cartography of Eastern Europe.
Key research interests include the intersection of political geography and historical cartography in Eastern Europe, Canada-Ukraine bilateral relations, and the study of state-minority dynamics. His work often examines historical episodes like World War I internment policies and their impact on Ukrainian-Canadian communities. Current projects explore Canada-Ukraine relations under Stephen Harper and early modern Ukrainian borderlands cartography.
Professor Kordan has been recognized with prestigious awards including the Saskatchewan Book Awards' Jennifer Welsh Scholarly Writing Award (2017) for No Free Man, the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), and the Margaret Dutli Award for Community Service (2001). He teaches advanced courses on nationalism, global governance, and Ukraine's state-building processes.
His publications bridge historical analysis with contemporary policy, including monographs on Ukrainian heritage, Canadian foreign policy, and the Euromaidan movement's geopolitical implications. His work integrates archival research with critical policy critique, emphasizing the interplay between historical memory and modern governance.
