Bohdan Tokarskyi is an Assistant Professor of Ukrainian Literature and Culture at Harvard University, affiliated with the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Slavonic Studies and an M.Phil. in European Literature and Culture from the University of Cambridge, preceded by studies in international law at the Institute of International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. His research focuses on modern and contemporary Ukrainian literature, particularly underground culture, modern poetry, and comparative literature, with a specialization in the works of dissident poet Vasyl Stus.
He has taught at the Universities of Cambridge, Basel, Potsdam, and Harvard, currently leading the seminar “Poetics of Resistance” in Ukrainian literature. Tokarskyi is a leading scholar on Vasyl Stus, working on the first English-language monograph on Stus’s poetry. His publications include *The Un/Executed Renaissance* (2021), analyzing Soviet Ukrainian modernism, and co-translations of Stus’s poetry in international journals. He also contributes to cultural projects, including the documentary play *The Summer Before Everything* about the Euromaidan revolution.
His translations of Stus’s poetry appear in *AGNI*, *Asymptote*, and *Modern Poetry in Translation*, among others. He collaborates with Nina Murray on a forthcoming volume of Stus’s selected poetry. Tokarskyi’s interdisciplinary work bridges academic research, translation, and cultural activism, emphasizing Ukrainian intellectual heritage and resistance narratives.
