Björn Citrohn is a Lecturer in Technology Didactics at the Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Linnaeus University. His work focuses on the intersection of technology education, didactics, and modeling in secondary school settings. He is affiliated with the Center for the Didactics of Natural Sciences and Technology, which is located at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences in Kalmar but includes members from multiple faculties including Social Sciences.
Dr. Citrohn holds a doctoral degree from Linköping University, where he completed his thesis on physical models in design projects and their relationship to technological knowledge and didactic relations in secondary school technology education. His educational background includes engineering studies, work in the construction industry, and teacher training for mathematics and natural science (grades 4-9).
Citrohn's research primarily explores how models and modeling are used in the design process within elementary and secondary school technology education. His work investigates teachers' perceptions of model functions, the affordances of different modeling approaches, and frameworks for analyzing technological knowledge in school design projects. He has contributed significantly to understanding how physical models can enhance students' technological understanding and skills in the classroom. His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on empirical classroom studies and theoretical framework development in technology education.
Throughout his career, Citrohn has held various leadership roles in the Swedish education system, including as a mathematics developer in Växjö municipality, subject expert for the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket), and contributor to national physics exams at Umeå University. He has also authored textbooks for technology and physics in elementary school and has been responsible for the department's commissioned education for schools and municipalities.
- Member of the Center for the Didactics of Natural Sciences and Technology
- Involved in the 'STEM education on equal terms' project
- Serves on the program board for the primary teacher education program
Dr. Citrohn teaches primarily in technology and physics didactics within teacher education programs and also works with continuing education for teachers through the 'Lärarlyft' initiative and various commissioned education programs. His work bridges academic research with practical classroom applications in Swedish technology education.
