Bill Lucas is a Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester. He co-founded the CRL in 2008 and serves on numerous international advisory boards including the OECD's PISA 2021 Creative Thinking initiative and the Global Institute of Creative Thinking. His research focuses on creativity, pedagogy, and educational leadership. Lucas holds roles as a strategic adviser to governments, educational institutions, and organizations worldwide.
Education: BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Trinity College, Oxford (1978); PGCE from Oxford University (1980); honorary EdD from De Montfort University (2001).
Research Interests: Dispositions for learning, creativity, tenacity, vocational pedagogy, engineering education, healthcare improvement, and expansive education frameworks. He has authored over 40 books and numerous peer-reviewed articles, with key works including Zest for Learning, Teaching Creative Thinking, and Expansive Education.
Awards: Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (1996), Guardian Jerwood Award (2011), International Fellowship from ISS Institute (2014). His conceptual frameworks such as the 'Five-Dimensional Model of Creativity' and 'Engineering Habits of Mind' have influenced global educational policy.
Leadership: Chairs advisory boards for the Tony Little Centre for Research and Innovation in Learning (Eton) and the Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership. He advises on creative thinking initiatives in Australia, Sweden, and the UK.
