Emma Goto is a Senior Lecturer in Education (Initial Teacher Education) at the University of Winchester, affiliated with the Faculty of Education and the Arts. She holds a BA in Psychology (1995, University of Dundee), PGCE in Primary Education (2000, King Alfred’s College), MAEd (2011, University of Winchester), and MProf in Educational Research (2018). Her research focuses on computational thinking, technology-enhanced learning, and Philosophy for Children (P4C), particularly in primary and early years education. She has contributed extensively to curriculum design, teacher training, and educational technology integration.
Emma’s career spans teaching in primary schools (1996–2010), where she specialized in ICT integration and served as an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST). She later consulted for Hampshire Local Authority on learning platforms (2009–2010). At the University of Winchester since 2013, she lectures on computing, professional studies, and early years education. Her work emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, digital literacy, and critical thinking.
Publications include chapters in Teaching and Learning with Technologies in the Primary School (2024) and Philosophy with Children and Teacher Education (2023). She has presented at international conferences on topics like computational thinking and digital citizenship. Awards include FHEA and FCCT. Emma also consults for BBC’s Wonderblocks (2021–2025) and contributed to the VSO Numeracy for All MESHGuide (2019–2020).
