Dr Bill Kissane is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Politics at the Department of Government, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Specializing in Civil War studies, Comparative Constitutionalism, and Democratization, his work focuses on Ireland, Turkey, and broader European contexts. Educated at Trinity College Dublin (BA, MA) and LSE (MSc, PhD), he has been a full-time faculty member since 1998.
His research explores the intersection of civil war, nationalism, and constitutional frameworks. Notable works include Nations Torn Asunder: The Challenge of Civil War and analyses of the Irish Civil War, Turkish constitutionalism, and revolutionary dynamics post-WWI. He is affiliated with LSE’s Conflict Research Group.
Recent publications emphasize civil war’s impact on state formation, national identity, and constitutional design. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary political challenges, offering insights into conflict resolution and democratic transitions.
