Professor Bill David FRS is a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford, affiliated with St Catherine's College. His research focuses on energy materials chemistry, hydrogen and ammonia storage systems, structural materials science, and crystallography. He employs neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction, computational modeling, and in-situ diffraction techniques to study material properties. His work addresses challenges in lightweight hydrogen storage, ammonia decomposition catalysts, and superhard carbon microspheres. He is also involved in advancing structure determination methods like the DASH software package.
Research interests include the development of novel energy storage materials, understanding crystalline and non-crystalline structural phenomena, and exploring mesoscale structural rules in carbon allotropes. His contributions have advanced knowledge in fuel cell systems, metal hydrides for FCEVs, and the redefinition of crystallography beyond traditional crystalline order.
- Key Projects:
- Hydrogen storage mechanisms in Li-N-H systems
- Ammonia decomposition via light metal amides
- Superhard carbon microspheres with lithium anode applications
- Neutron diffraction studies for material behavior under cycling
Prof. David has been recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). He currently does not recruit graduate students or postdoctoral researchers.
