Bjørn Christian Hauback is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo, and has been a member of the IFE staff since 1993. He holds a PhD (Dr.ing) from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), Trondheim, awarded in 1989. His research focuses on materials science, particularly hydrogen storage materials, magnetic materials, nanoscience, crystallography, and neutron/X-ray diffraction. He is actively involved in energy-related applications and serves as Operating Agent for the IEA Hydrogen Implementation Agreement Task 22 since 2006.
Professional memberships include the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences, Norwegian Physical Society, and international steering committees for conferences on metal-hydrogen systems and synchrotron research. His work spans collaborations with institutions globally, including the European Spallation Source and the Research Council of Norway.
Recent research highlights include advancements in neutron spectroscopy instrumentation (BIFROST spectrometer), structural analysis of magnetic alloys, and investigations into high-entropy alloys for magnetocaloric applications. His studies on hydrogen sorption properties in metal hydrides and thermal expansion in thermoelectric materials underscore his contributions to energy storage and materials characterization.
Publications span over 30 peer-reviewed articles from 2022–2025, with a focus on hydrogen storage, magnetic transitions, and neutron scattering techniques. Collaborations frequently involve multidisciplinary teams addressing challenges in sustainable energy materials.
