Associate Professor Bianca Waud is affiliated with the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. She holds a DVM from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany, and a PhD from the Institute of Animal Breeding and Genetics in Hannover. Her postdoctoral research at the Institute of Genetics in Bern, Switzerland, focused on genetic studies in animals. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), she specializes in veterinary systems biology with a focus on genetic disorders in cats and dogs.
Her research interests include inherited diseases in animals, genetic variant analysis, and the development of surveillance platforms like the Anstee Hub for Inherited Diseases of Animals (AHIDA). She has contributed to studies on xanthinuria in cats, osteochondrodysplasia in Scottish Fold cats, and hypertriglyceridemia in miniature Schnauzers. Her work bridges veterinary medicine, genetics, and translational research.
Selected grants include projects on cannabinoid receptors as therapy targets for arthritis-related chronic pain in cats (2024) and osteoarthritis in dogs (2023).
