Associate Professor Imke Tammen is affiliated with the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. She holds a PhD in Veterinary Medicine and Masters degrees in Higher Education and Bioethics. Her research focuses on molecular genetics of inherited diseases in animals and bioethics in veterinary science.

- Co-founder of Anstee Hub for Inherited Diseases in Animals (AHIDA)
- Developed the Vertebrate Breed Ontology (VBO) for standardized animal data
Research Trends across 15 recent publications show sustained focus on: genetics of ichthyosis fetalis, neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, and 3M syndrome models; development of vertebrate disease ontologies; and bioethics in animal breeding. Collaborative work spans 24 horse breeds genotyping projects and Dog10K Consortium genomic studies.

Has supervised 8 PhD students in topics ranging from Dexter cattle chondrodysplasia to ovine CLN6 mutations. Currently supervises Leah Johnson (Northern Arabia Pastoralism) and Michelle Campbell-Ward (Wildlife Health Ethics). Teaching portfolio includes VETS1013 Animal Energetics, ANSC3106 Animal Welfare, and advanced veterinary research projects.
