Bharat Mishra is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame, where he contributes to bioinformatics and computational systems biology research and training. He is affiliated with the Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility (GBCF), providing high-throughput sequencing analysis support in RNA-Seq, single-cell transcriptomics (scRNA-Seq), and spatial transcriptomics (ST). His role emphasizes collaborative research, data analysis, and training in biological data science.
Education:
- Ph.D, Biology, University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL, 2022
- M.Tech, Bioinformatics, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, India, 2015
- B.Tech, Bioinformatics, SRM University, Chennai, India, 2012
His research focuses on computational systems biology, network analysis, and machine learning to understand genetic and molecular mechanisms in stress, disease, and host-pathogen interactions. He develops quantitative frameworks to dissect biomolecular networks in plant and human systems, emphasizing reproducible research, FAIR data practices, and open-source tools. His work spans plant bioinformatics, functional genomics, immune cell profiling, and cancer biology.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in integrative network biology, combining transcriptomic, proteomic, and interactome data to uncover central regulatory nodes in immunity and disease. His work bridges computational innovation with biological insight across plant and human systems, particularly in inflammation, viral pathogenesis, and agricultural genomics.
Scientific Awards and Recognitions:
- ISCB Fellow, 2022
- IS-MPMI Fellow, 2019–2020
- Phi Sigma Full Member, 2019
He serves on the editorial board of Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences and Scientific Reports, and is a reviewer for several journals including Frontiers in Bioinformatics and Frontiers in Plant Sciences. His advisory and collaborative roles include mentoring researchers through the GBCF and contributing to multi-institutional projects in immunology and plant sciences. He is involved in Software Carpentry training and promotes best practices in data science education.
