Bhagya Subrayan is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Steward Observatory within the University of Arizona, collaborating with Prof. Dave Sand. Her work focuses on time-domain astrophysics, multiwavelength observations of transients, and optimizing follow-up strategies for all-sky surveys using AI-driven systems like REFITT. She completed her PhD in Astrophysics at Purdue University (2024) and an Integrated BS-MS at IISER Thiruvananthapuram (2018).
- Education
- PhD, Astrophysics (2024), Purdue University
- Integrated BS-MS (2018), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram
Her research spans core-collapse supernovae, tidal disruption events, and precursor activities in massive stars, leveraging facilities like the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory LSST. She specializes in developing statistical inference techniques for sparse supernova light curves and building cyberinfrastructure to address Big Data challenges in transient astronomy.
Bhagya is actively involved in promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM, particularly supporting women and underrepresented groups. Her technical expertise includes programming, data science, and machine learning applications in astrophysics.
