Beverley Hood is an artist and Senior Lecturer in Technological Embodiment and Creative Practice at the School of Design, University of Edinburgh. She is actively involved in the UKRI BRAID (Bridging Responsible AI Divides) programme as a Co-Investigator and has previously held administrative roles such as Director of Research in Design (2018–2023) and ECA Representative for the Centre for Data, Culture and Society (2018–2023).
- Education: Studied Sculpture and Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, Halifax, Canada.
Her research interrogates the impact of technology on the body, relationships, and human experience through practice-based projects and writing. Key themes include live performance using technology, interdisciplinary collaboration (with medical researchers, scientists, technologists), and the ethical implications of AI in creative practice.
She supervises PhD students across Design and Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), including Matthew Attard (Eye drawing world views), Emily Beaney (Shimmers of Silence), Victoria Evans (Trans-locale), Gregg S. Lloren (De-Framing Time and Space), Martin Disley (0), Jiarong Yu (Eye drawing), Zhiyang Ding, and Xiaozhuang Gao. Her projects span immersive technology, AI integration, and patient experience research.
Beverley Hood is affiliated with research groups at the University of Edinburgh, including RAFT (materiality and digital technologies), Experiential AI, Centre for Creative and Relational Inquiry, and the Performance Research Network. She also co-founded the international Art & Ethics Research Group (AERG), comprising artists, designers, scientists, and social scientists.
