Bethany Moody is a full-time Instructor of Foundations at the University of Alabama, specializing in interdisciplinary textile art and community-driven practices. She holds an MFA in Visual Studies from the University at Buffalo (2017) and a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Montevallo (2012). Moody’s work explores material culture through reclaimed textiles, interrogating themes of sustainability, gender fluidity, and communal care.
Her research and exhibitions emphasize transforming discarded materials into cohesive installations, such as Support Structures for Willful Arms (2022) and Compression Logic (2025). Moody is an artist-member of Ground Floor Contemporary in Birmingham and co-founder of Studio Support Group, a collaborative initiative fostering community among artists. Notable recognitions include the 2024 Individual Artist Fellowship in Craft from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and a Co-Director’s Award at the 2019 SECAC Juried Exhibition.
Moody’s teaching spans foundations courses in drawing, sculpture, and 2D/3D design. She has led workshops on textile techniques and participatory art at institutions including Space One Eleven and the Jefferson County school system. Her practice merges studio art with public engagement, prioritizing tactile interaction and collective storytelling.
