Bethane Jo Pierce

Dr. Bethane Jo Pierce serves as Professor of Accounting in the College of Business at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she has taught taxation courses since 1985. A Certified Public Accountant (Texas, 1979) and Certified Teaching Peer Observer, she emphasizes deep learning through rigorous pedagogy that has contributed to UTA's tax program ranking among the nation's top ten.

Her educational credentials include a PhD in Accounting from the University of North Texas (1987), an MPA from UTA (1978), and a BS in Microbiology from Texas A&M University (1975).

Research centers on sampling methodologies in audit/tax contexts, decision-making processes, and accounting education innovation. Recent work explores stratified sampling techniques and artificial intelligence applications to enhance estimation efficiency in financial reporting and tax compliance.

Her scholarly output spans audit sampling rigor to tax education pedagogy, published in journals like Advances in Accounting and Journal of the American Taxation Association, demonstrating consistent methodological advancement with emerging AI integration.

She has mentored over 15 graduate students including Susan Rhame and James Hunton. As VITA Coordinator, she directs UTA's United Way partnership providing community tax preparation services while serving on university committees including the Hearing Panel and Graduate Studies Executive Committee.
