Stephanie J Rasmussen

Stephanie J. Rasmussen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting at the College of Business, The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where she has been a faculty member since 2009. She earned her PhD in Accounting from Texas A&M University in 2009, an MBA in Finance from The University of Tennessee in 2000, and a BS in Finance from Minnesota State University in 1998.

Her research centers on financial reporting, audit quality, corporate governance, and pedagogical innovation in accounting education. She has published in top-tier journals such as The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Accounting Horizons. Her recent work explores cooperation credit in SEC enforcement actions, earnings management in the semiconductor industry, and the use of digital tools like podcasts and Pinterest to enhance student engagement.

Her publications reflect a strong focus on both empirical financial accounting and innovative teaching methods, with keywords spanning Accounting, Finance, Regulation, and Education. Notable sub-fields include sustainability reporting, audit committee effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and technology-enhanced learning.

Dr. Rasmussen has received numerous honors, including the UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award (2020), the Distinguished Research Publication Award (2017), and induction into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers (2017). She has also been nominated multiple times for teaching excellence at UTA and the UT System.

She actively mentors students, having chaired or co-chaired dissertation and supervisory committees for several PhD candidates and supervised undergraduate honors theses. She holds leadership roles such as Assistant Chair of the Accounting Department, Course Coordinator for ACCT 2302, and serves on multiple college and departmental committees related to curriculum, teaching effectiveness, and faculty recruitment. She is also a faculty advisor for Beta Gamma Sigma and the Accounting Society.

Her professional service includes peer reviewing for journals like The Accounting Review, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, and Accounting Horizons, as well as presenting research at AAA meetings and CPE events. She is a member of the American Accounting Association and the Institute of Management Accountants.
