Professor Beth Armstrong is a leading academic in Speech Pathology and Rural Health, serving as Director of Edith Cowan University's University Department of Rural Health South West (UDRH SW). Her roles include strengthening rural health workforce development through clinical placements and leading multidisciplinary research in Aboriginal health and brain injury rehabilitation. She holds a PhD (Macquarie University, 1997) and MA (1988).
Her research focuses on culturally secure healthcare for Indigenous Australians, cross-cultural communication in healthcare, and aphasia rehabilitation. Key projects include the Healing Right Way Trial enhancing Aboriginal brain injury services and the Very Early Rehabilitation in Speech (VERSE) trial for stroke survivors. She has secured over $10M in grants and published 138+ peer-reviewed works.
Armstrong leads national initiatives like the Australian Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative, aiming to standardize outcome measures. Awards include Fellow of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia. Her work bridges clinical practice, policy, and Indigenous cultural needs, emphasizing equity in neurorehabilitation.
