Beshah Ayalew is Professor and Director of the DOE GATE Center of Excellence in Sustainable Vehicle Systems at Clemson University. His research spans control systems, vehicle dynamics, energy optimization, and autonomous vehicles, with PhD and MS degrees from Penn State University.
His work integrates control theory with applications in electric vehicles, off-road autonomy, and sustainable transportation. Current projects involve energy-aware trajectory planning, fleet charging algorithms, and reinforcement learning for vehicle control.
Recent publications focus on high-confidence trajectory planning, multi-vehicle charging systems, and safety-critical control. His 2023 work demonstrates mobile charging optimization for EV fleets using distributed scheduling algorithms.
- SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award (2014)
- Clemson Board of Trustees Award (2012, 2019)
- NSF CAREER Award (2011)
- ASME Fellow (2018)
He advises 11+ PhD students and leads industry collaborations (Michelin, Toyota, US Army). As GATE Center Director, he oversees research on sustainable mobility and energy-efficient systems.
