Dr. Taehyun Shim is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan-Dearborn's College of Engineering and Computer Science. His research spans vehicle dynamics, autonomous systems, and control engineering with applications in automotive safety and electrified vehicles.
Research interests focus on integrated chassis control, autonomous driving algorithms, and vehicle stability systems. Recent publications demonstrate expertise in motion planning, steering control optimization, and brake system design for advanced vehicles.
Honors include fellowship in ASME (2019), Ford Innovation Fellow Award (2019), and SAE Teetor Award (2008). Research has been supported by Ford, Hyundai-Kia, TRW Automotive, and General Dynamics.
Directs the Automotive Engineering Graduate Program and advises student teams including Formula SAE. Holds editorial positions for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and serves on ASME Automotive Transportation Systems Committee.
