Daniel Williams is a Professor of Engineering Practice at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, based in West Lafayette, Indiana. His research focuses on vehicle dynamics, autonomous systems, and human-machine interaction in transportation. Williams holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology (1995), an MBA from the same institution (1990), and additional degrees in History (Purdue, 2008) and Agricultural Engineering (University of Illinois, 1985).
His research interests include vehicle chassis control systems, autonomous vehicles, and human driver dynamics. He has contributed to advancements in multi-axle vehicle design, active suspension systems, and safety mechanisms. Williams is a Fellow of SAE, ASME, and IMechE, and has received prestigious awards such as the Magnus Hendrickson Award (2020) and Hyundai Distinguished Lecturer designation (2014, 2018).
His publications span topics like steering redundancy, roll stability, and historical control innovations, reflecting a blend of theoretical and applied engineering. Williams remains active in both academic research and industry collaborations, particularly in motorsports and transportation robotics.
