Berta Rodriguez is a Lecturer in the Spanish Department at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Arts and Sciences. She has taught Spanish language courses at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels since 2003, including specialized programs for medical and veterinary professionals. Her roles also include instructing at the Lauder Institute and the Penn Language Center.
Education: B.A. in Spanish Linguistics and Literature (Rowan University), M.A. in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language (University of Alcalá de Henares), and Rassias Method training (Dartmouth College).
Research interests focus on Second Language Acquisition, Cross-cultural Learning, and Communicative Competence. She has contributed to language pedagogy through innovative teaching methods like documentary film integration and the Rassias Method.
Awards: Recognized for teaching excellence with the 2007 Departmental Award and 2020 Best Penn Language Center Teacher of the Year.
Teaching and Advising: Guides students in Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) preparation. Her expertise extends to translation and interpretation, including work with the College of Education (Rowan University) and domestic violence programs.
