Bert Wouters

Bert Wouters is a part-time Assistant Professor in the Geoscience & Remote Sensing (GRS) department at Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, concurrently holding an appointment at Utrecht University's Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (IMAU). After completing his Masters and PhD at TU Delft's Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, he conducted postdoctoral research at KNMI, the University of Colorado Boulder, and the University of Bristol before joining IMAU, now returning to TU Delft after an eight-year hiatus.

Dr. Wouters specializes in climate remote sensing using satellite gravimetry and altimetry, with recent emphasis on cryosphere dynamics. His research integrates satellite observations with climate model data to analyze interactions across all climate system components, particularly focusing on drivers of observed changes. Current work centers on global glacier mass loss funded by his VIDI grant, bridging observational data with climate modeling to assess sea-level rise contributions.

Dr. Wouters leads the VIDI-funded glacier research project while maintaining dual institutional affiliations. He actively contributes to earth system science through interdisciplinary research bridging geodesy, remote sensing, and climate physics.
