Thore Kausch is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology, supervised by Stef Lhermitte. He actively contributes to the Mass2Ant project investigating East Antarctica's surface mass balance variability through integrated remote sensing and modeling approaches.
His academic foundation includes:
- Bachelor of Science in Physics of the Earth System from the University of Kiel
- Master of Science in Geophysics from the University of Kiel, with thesis work on InSAR time series analysis of surface displacements in Tibet's seismically active fault zones
Kausch specializes in cryospheric research utilizing multi-source data integration. His methodology combines in-situ field measurements from Antarctic expeditions with regional climate models (RACMO2.3), snow physics models (SNOWPACK, Alpine3D), and satellite remote sensing systems including Cloudsat, ALOS-PALSAR, and Sentinel-1. This interdisciplinary approach enables comprehensive analysis of ice sheet dynamics and surface mass balance processes in East Antarctica's Princess Ragnhild Coast region.
As a member of TU Delft's Geoscience and Remote Sensing Laboratory, Kausch operates within a research ecosystem focused on Earth observation technologies and geospatial analysis. The Mass2Ant project represents a significant collaborative framework advancing understanding of Antarctic ice sheet behavior under climate change scenarios through innovative data fusion techniques.
