Bernd Rech

Prof. Dr. Bernd Rech is a physicist and Scientific Director of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) since 2019. He serves as a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Technical University of Berlin and previously headed HZB's Institute for Silicon Photovoltaics (2006-2017). His research focuses on thin-film solar cells, tandem solar cell materials, and renewable energy technologies.

Prof. Rech's research interests span advanced photovoltaics, semiconductor materials optimization, and sustainable energy systems. His work contributes to high-efficiency, low-cost solar cell development and hybrid energy solutions.

He has received the Apple of Inspiration award (2018) and is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and the Slovenian Academy of Engineering. Prof. Rech also serves on advisory boards for Germany's Energy Research Programme and the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin.
